From Group level down to all of Kingspan’s divisions, we strive for sustainability in all our business products and operations as our corporate and personal responsibility. Kingspan aims to adopt and apply best practice sustainability principles by ensuring environmental, social and economic parameters are considered in an integrated way in product and service delivery.
Within Kingspan Insulated Panels this means adopting a sustainable business model. Some of the highlights of this model in action are:
Approximately 20-25% of the steel used in our insulated panels in Europe is recycled. Currently, core waste is recycled back into the manufacturing process at our site in Ireland and systems and methodologies for responsibly dealing with waste insulation are in place at the other manufacturing sites.
We have attained ISO 14001:2004 for all our sites. All manufacturing sites have achieved BS EN ISO 9001 and the majority also have OHSAS / ISO 18001.
All key suppliers are either working towards ISO 9001 / 14001 and OHSAS 18001, or have already achieved it.
In 2011, Kingspan Group embarked on a Net-Zero initiative. The target is to have all Kingspan facilities running on renewable power by 2020, with an interim target of achieving 50% by 2016. The achievement is being prioritised at our sites in Holywell, North Wales and Sherburn, North England, which are the largest sites. There are already small-scale renewable energy systems in place, including solar thermal hot water, wind and a large scale photovoltaic array, commissioned in 2011, that is currently delivering over 300,000 kWh per annum.
We have recently achieved this certification for our Holywell site, in recognition of the continual improvement of energy performance
